The Honest Truth About Recruiting in Korea

Weather Forecasting in Korea

with 2 comments

This is one of my biggest gripes.

The damn weather forecasting here is so off it’s ridiculous.  Remember a couple of weeks ago when they predicted 10 cm of snow to fall (I believe it was a Monday).  Didn’t happen; maybe 2 cm at most.  Regardless I drove my car home at lunch to avoid the traffic mess that ultimately never happened.

Fast forward one week.  I checked the weather forecast and it predicted light snow.  WRONG!  Down came the biggest snowfall in 40 some odd years.  Luckily in started in the morning so I knew not to take my car out by the time I went outside.  The subway ride was absolutely horrendous; never seen it so crowded.

So my question is, what the hell is up with the gross mis-forecasting of the weather here?!?!  Are meteorologists so inept or uneducated they can’t give a rough estimate of how much precipitation we’re going to receive?  Not only in winter, I find this the same with other seasons here as well; saying it will be sunny and then it rains and vice versa.

I know that weather forecasting isn’t 100% accurate everywhere but compared to back home, it seems a lot more worse here.  I wouldn’t care as much but being OCD as I am, I always try to get car washes when I know there will be an extended streak of dry weather.  Instead, I always seem to wash my car the day before it pours (after Mr. Weatherman tells me it will be sunny).

Looks like I’m not the only one complaining though.  Hopefully in 2010 they will be a little more accurate.

  1. I hate to say it, but the state of weather forecasting in S. Korea falls in line with may other aspects of it’s society. One really can’t question the consistancy!
