Another Fail by Korea Times

I flamed the Korea Times before although I do use a lot of their links.  Not all their articles are useless.  But when you print things like this, it’s just an embarrassment.  Do they have random Koreans readers just send in shit without being proofread?

Not again! Foreign teacher gets jail term for harassment

From the Korea Times.

Of course this happens in Korean society on a daily basis but when it’s a foreigner, it sticks out a lot more and makes all foreigners look bad.  This, not long after the Daegu incident.  They just changed the E-2 regulations to supposedly deter these sickos (which everyone knows is just more BS and paperwork).  Wonder what they’ll come up with now.  AES must be having a field day.

No Luck Finding a Job These Days?

First of all, my apologies to my loyal readers (all ten of you!) for my lack of posts but it’s been crazy busy as of late.

Right now schools are picky; ample amount of resumes to choose from.  In all honesty though, it could be all about appearance.  Best advice is to get a professional-looking photo and video (which is all the craze these days).  Also, if you’re not picky about location, it will definitely help your cause as well and make yourself as un-undesirable as possible.  Send your resumes to as many recruiters as possible (commit recruiter polygamy!).  Also, don’t only rely on recruiters.  You should also be able to find job advertisements posted directly by companies; apply directly when possible to avoid the middleman.

It’s very competitive right now so you have to sell yourself.  Follow these tips and be vigilant.  You’ll eventually find a position so be patient!

Attractive women overlooked for certain jobs

This article from the Toronto Sun made me laugh when I think about how appearances play such a big role in Korea.

Attractive women faced discrimination when they applied for jobs where appearance was not seen as important. These positions included job titles like manager of research and development, director of finance, mechanical engineer and construction supervisor.

They were also overlooked for categories like director of security, hardware salesperson, prison guard and tow-truck driver.

Umm…do attractive women really apply to the last 3 jobs??  I’m not trying to be sexist and I know that attractiveness is subjective but come on!

“In these professions being attractive was highly detrimental to women,” researcher Stefanie Johnson said in a statement, adding that attractive women tended to be sorted into positions like receptionist or secretary.

Okay that’s pretty sexist.

But Johnson said beautiful people still enjoyed a significant edge when it came to the workplace.

They tended to get higher salaries, better performance evaluations, higher levels of admission to college, better voter ratings when running for public office, and more favorable judgments in trials.

“In every other kind of job, attractive women were preferred,” said Johnson, who chided those who let stereotypes affect hiring decisions.

Okay that sounds more like Korea.
